So, has anyone ever read their student conduct codes?
These are some excerpts from wonderful Stony Brook University's conduct code:
The following violations of this CODE are specifically prohibited.
c. Sexual abuse and/or assault. No student shall engage in sexual contact with another person without effective consent. This includes but is not limited to non-consensual sexual contact, attempted non-consensual penetration, non-consensual anal intercourse, fellatio, cunnilingus, or the insertion of a foreign object into the vagina, urethra, penis or rectum of another. An individual CANNOT GIVE EFFECTIVE CONSENT who is under the age of 17, physically helpless, mentally incapacitated, severely impaired and/or incapacitated because of drug or alcohol intoxication. The prior sexual experiences of the alleged victim of sexual abuse and/or assault will not be considered in the determination of responsibility to a charge of sexual abuse and/or assault.
d. Dangerous conditions. No student shall create a condition that endangers or threatens the safety or well-being of him/herself or others. This includes but is not limited to the misuse of devices such as box cutters, laser pointers and paint ball guns.
2. Excessive consumption-student rooms. To discourage excessive consumption, large quantities of beer, wine, or hard liquor, are prohibited in student rooms. No individual student room may possess more than one case of 12 oz. bottles/cans of beer at one time, or more than one gallon of wine at one time, or more than one liter of spirits (not to exceed 100 proof) at one time, providing the authorized occupants of the room are 21. If only one authorized room occupant is 21, the quantity allowed in the room is divided in half.
d. No student shall introduce to the campus or possess drug paraphernalia including, but not limited to: bongs, water pipes, roach clips, blunts or hypodermic needles (not specifically for the administering of prescribed medications). - AKA: HOOKAHS!!!
b. Unless so permitted by the Assistant Vice President for Campus Residences or designee, non-sleeping facilities in the residence halls or apartments such as suite or apartment living areas, end hall lounges or other areas in buildings shall not be used for sleeping quarters. - Don't even DARE to think about sleeping on the couch unless you have the approval of the vice president of the couch sleeping committee. Knowing stony brook, this is the poor sap's only job.
I HATE the bureaucracy of this school!!!!

| | excited | ] | I love working at the temp agency. It's so cool not knowing where you're going to be working one day after the next.
So, today I'm working as a receptionist for the Committee to Protect Journalists. Everyone here is basically from a different country... lots of accents floating around the office.
Right now, they're pretty busy because of the kidnapping of journalist Micah Garen. I'm handling phone calls from CNN.
The coolest thing is being in the middle of a news story... as it's happening. I think people on their side are negotiating with the kidnappers now. I think one of the kidnappers' demands is making a certain group claim they demanded the journalists release? I'm not sure how any of this fits together... the whole office is abuzz with activity.
In other news... my ipod came in at 1:11PM today... and... I'm stuck here at the office until 6. Wah!!!! I want to go home and play with it. I'll update more about that when I get back. Feh to the people who thought this was a scam! |

So... I officially have the best job ever for the next 4 days.
I just got hired at a temp agency last Thursday, and I expected never to hear from them ever again.
They called me on Monday with 3 job offerings, all highly paid.
So... until Friday I work at a make-up store in manhattan. It's... so awesome. It's in an office building that's closed to the public.. so no one comes in. At all. Plus, I don't have to be at work till noon. Plus.. I get paid 14 dollars an hour. Plus... I don't actually do anything.
HUGE selection of products.
And on top of that, discounted make-up! Tons of it! Haha.. I hope I don't spend more than I earn.
I can't wait to go to work tomorrow. |

Subject: What is your problem Body: Why don't you ever write back? Huh? What the hell did I ever do to you? HM??? You ain't no Ninja. I'm a Ninja. A real Ninja would wanna talk to a fellow Ninja; usually to learn new secrets and tricks and such. You're basically screaming out to me that you want me to go out of my way to track you down and show you what a legit Ninja can do.
Is this because of that fat pig ******? huh!? Do you think you're better than me or some shit? Well hell no missy you ain't. You're fucking lucky you're graced with the smallest drop of attention from me. We'll see about this shit. Oh yes we shall.

Now the only thing between hiking the NY state minimum wage from 5.15 to 7.10 is Gov. Pataki. That bastard better vote right.
This story is pretty personal to me... for about 2 or 3 weeks, I worked with the Working Families Party as a canvasser to raise minimum wage. I busted my ass.. and raised about 350$ towards the campaign.
Even though I did such a small part, it's nice to see the fruit of your labor.
State pols vote to add $2 to minimum wage BY HEIDI EVANS and JOE MAHONEY DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS
ALBANY - A measure that would boost New York's minimum wage by $2 an hour overwhelmingly cleared both houses of the Legislature yesterday, putting the controversial measure in Gov. Pataki's lap. The Republican-led Senate passed the bill, 51 to 7, and the Democratic-controlled Assembly was similarly enthusiastic, backing it 116 to 19. Still, Pataki was on the fence last night as to whether he would sign the measure or veto it.
If he does nothing in the next 10 days, it automatically becomes law and the state minimum wage would go to $7.15 an hour, in three steps, by January 2007.
Restaurant workers who get tips also would see their minimum pay go up in similar steps, from $3.30 an hour now to $4.60 an hour by January 2007.
"We did the right thing," said Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan). "I hope the governor will do the right thing."
The wage bill is expected to be a hot topic in the upcoming political campaign season. Democrats were quick to charge that Republican senators backed the bill only to escape voters' wrath.
"The Republicans ... have initiated a cynical plot to protect their vulnerable seats," said Senate Minority Leader David Paterson (D-Manhattan).
But Senate Labor Committee Chairwoman Olga Mendez (R-Manhattan, Bronx) brushed off those criticisms and called the passage of a higher minimum wage "a tremendous victory for all the hardworking families in New York."
New York's minimum wage has been stuck at $5.15 since March 2000, when it was raised from $4.25.
Advocates for the wage hike now plan to pressure Pataki, who has repeatedly said he believes New York's businesses would be at a "competitive disadvantage" if the state's wage floor tops the federal minimum.
"Gov. Pataki can improve the quality of a million existing jobs with the stroke of a pen next week," said Bob Masters of the Working Families Party, which led a grass-roots organizing drive to pressure Senate Republicans into backing the measure.
But opposing pressure will likely come from one of Pataki's staunchest allies, Conservative Party boss Mike Long, who made an unsuccessful bid to stop Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno (R-Rensselaer) from getting behind the minimum wage.
